"HARMONIC PARADIGMS", SEPTEMBER 6 - OCTOBER 4, 2005 An artist who has reinvigorated the modern abstract painting, California painter Jenny Simon has an inimitable body of work replete with commanding colorful impact. Ms. Simon infuses her art with a panoply of color layers, often thick layers of dense oil paint. Much of the power of her work stems from the heady accumulation of color over color. Similarly, Ms. Simon blends thick bands of color both vertically and horizontally across the pictorial surface. The exuberance of Ms. Simon's art can be traced immediately to the color, light, and composition that she employs. Her use of color imbues her paintings with a distinctive sense of movement that is both vivid and quite energetic. The quiet echo of spirituality is inherent to the majestic simplicity of Ms. Simon's paintings in terms of her mastery of pure color. The interplay between light and shadow, dark and bright hues, and motion and calm reflects Ms. Simon's extraordinary attention to the myriad of facets of abstract painting. The artworks are sophisticated, complex creations that are both dramatic and deeply moving. Ms Simon's art emphasizes how crucial an intuitive capacity with color can be, whether linking crisp hues of red or blazing swaths of texture yellow. There is a luminescence within Ms. Simon's paintings, even in the thickest and deepest painting. The light comes from underneath the paint, almost like a sun spreading its rays as it sets behind the horizon. The brushstrokes at work is spellbinding as well; for, Ms. Simon's brushstrokes simulates the change from dark to light through the shift from rough to smooth application. Ms Simon's paintings reveal both stunning artistic expression and gorgeous displays of painting brilliance. Born and raised in Germany, Ms. Simon has exhibited her work widely throughout California, New York, and Germany. She has also exhibited her artwork at the Coos Art Museum in Oregon, the Riverside Art Museum and the Alexandria Museum of Art in Louisiana. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) and President of the Pasadena Society of Artists. Additionally, ten percent of all of Ms. Simon's artistic proceeds support charitable organizations. |
